Marta Garcia dominates the W Series at the Norisring

- Marta Garcia took pole position at the historic Norisring street circuit
- The 18-year old motorsport talent from Spain sealed her first race win in single-seaters
- Garcia qualified on pole, set second-fastest race lap and ran away with the victory

After having finished school and completed the selective exams about two weeks ago, Marta Garcia came back very determined and well prepared for round 4 of the all-female W Series at the Norisring (Germany) this weekend, following the mid-season break. The young Spaniard secured her first pole position in the morning qualifying session and followed on with a totally dominant race win to claim her maiden career victory in single-seaters, where she’s been out of the car for the last 18 months.

After a strong start, Garcia consistently pulled away from both the previous race winners Beitske Visser and Jamie Chadwick, controlling the lead for the entire race to finish with an impressive gap of more than 3 seconds at the chequered flag. Posting second-best lap of the race, the valuable points gained have now boosted her third place ranking even more in the 6 round championship.

Marta Garcia:

“I’m really pleased with the weekend. We didn’t expect it to be like this because I was not so comfortable in the first practice, although we made progress in the second session to be only three-tenths off, but I knew there were some things I needed to improve. In the evening, we worked together with the engineer to analyse all the data and try to find the speed for the qualifying Saturday. So I was fastest in the quali then had a good start from first position, my pace was good and I could just go. Norisring is a nice track, but you need to brake very hard in the corners and this was important for me to control the race lead.“

“I’m really happy with the win finally after four rounds and it’s my first win in single-seaters. The first thing I thought about when I crossed the finish line was my family, who has given me everything. Behind every race that starts, until victory, is all sacrifice!!!!

“I want to go race to race, not lose the focus, but not discount anything.”

After the race is before the race, so the preparation begins for the next race at Assen in two weeks.
