Marta Garcia storms with dominant races at the Temple of Speed

Marta García got the job done in the fifth round of the W Series Esports League, hosted by the Circuit Spa-Francorchamps, by snatching both pole positions and winning Race 1 and Race 3 in dominant form! The Spanish athlete still holds her third position in the overall ranking, but narrows the gap to the top 2 – thanks to her constant progress and solid performances.

17 female drivers lined up on the grid at the Ardennes mythical circuit of Spa-Francorchamps, the mid-season event in the W Series Esports League, where the long straights, uphill fantasy Eau Rouge and freight train effect were going to feature some of the best virtual races so far.

19 year-old Marta García set an early pace in Qualification 1 with a first lapped time of 2:19.460. The leader of the series attempted to steal the pole from the Spaniard, but Marta secured the pole by 0.199 tenths of a second.

García had a great start in Race 1, nice and clean, where two other competitors made contact. She did a great job defending her position through the first chicane, while showing her ability in the braking zones. She opened the gap of more than one second, leaving some great battles behind. As the race came down to the final moments, Visser tried to pass Marta with a very late unexpected move, but the Spaniard held the lead and crossed the line first, signing her first win of the season.

Race 2 took place as usual with reverse grid. Marta progressed to P10 early in a race dominated by South African Tasmin Pepper. Spa always brings good racing and many surprises, as we saw Visser out of the race for some time after an earlier incident. Meanwhile, García set her sights on fellow Spaniard Belén and then gained two more positions until she took the chequered flag in P5.

In Qualifying 2 we saw our Spanish racer in great form again. She set both fastest laps with her best in 2:19.555, pushing hard to keep Visser behind by 0.061 seconds and Sidorkova in P3, so Race 3 was set to give the audience some great entertainment with the top 3 in the championship fighting on this iconic track!

Marta took a fantastic start in the final race, the longest of the three on the event program, leaving her contenders further back after a couple of laps. She made no mistakes, commanding a group of credited race winners. Referring to all her knowledge from the previous races, Marta opened a gap of more than 2 seconds and claimed her second victory in the W Series Esports League. The Spaniard is third in the overall points and now has her focus set on reaching the very top.

Round 6 will take place on July 16 in Watkins Glen, USA at the former home of the F1 USGP.

Marta García: “It has been a fantastic achievement in Spa! As the season progresses, so do I, as I was not at all familiar with iRacing! Now I feel more and more confident. After my first win, I progressed nicely in Race 2, I wanted to keep calm and stay away from trouble. Points are capital here! Pole and win in Race 3, more and more consistency. It’s on to the next one now!”
