Marta Garcia takes off in Watkins Glen

The W Series Esports League reached the halfway point of the season in Watkins Glen (USA), where the Spanish athlete Marta García took another dominant win in Race 3, closing the gap to the second driver in the overall standings, with only 4 rounds of the championship remaining.

16 drivers took part in the sixth event of the season at the American Watkins Glen racetrack, more of a linear circuit that has no mercy on the drivers if they hit the kerb. Although Marta did not find the best pace in Qualifying 1, she managed to set the fifth best lap of the timed session.

Contact in Race 1 took the Spaniard out of the battle in front, but García started to gain positions with some clever moves, especially the one in the double right-hander, that meant she finished the race in P9, picking up some precious points in a race dominated by the leader Beitske Visser.

For the first time of the season, the Spanish racer was able to reach a podium position in the reverse grid race, battling at the front of the field in an action-packed Race 2 won by Irina Sidorkova. Moreover, she showed her dominance ahead of the leader of the W Series Esports League, opening a gap of 1.5 seconds to the experienced Dutch racer Visser. Russian Sidorkova took the win.

However, the best of Marta García was yet to come! Qualifying 2 was so close again with García securing third on the grid, less than half a second off the pole sitter Beitske Visser. Marta made a superb start in the longest race of the event. Running side by side, she out-braked Visser through the bus stop chicane to grab the lead. Marta literally took off and was flying in P1, while Visser made a mistake in the fight for the podium, dropping back to P15. García showed her dominance through to the flag, opening a clear gap ahead of Sidorkova and Caitlin Wood for her third victory in the Series!

Round 7 heads to another fantastic circuit next week – Suzuka!

Marta García: “My qualifying pace was not as good as expected in this round, but in the races I have demonstrated my progress and improved skill in the sim racing, and collected the most in terms of points, which gives me a strong position in the fight for the top positions in this series!”
