Marta García shines with two more podiums in the Green Hell

The Spanish athlete Marta García added two more podium positions to her W Series Esports League records after finishing second in Race 1 and Race 3, also setting pole position in the last event of the night. García extended her points in second position overall as the Dutch Beitske Visser became the first ever winner of the W Series Esports League.

A total of 18 W Series Esports League drivers were set to compete at one of the most legendary tracks - the Nürburgring Nordschleife. Because of the length of the circuit, the races were only two laps long! In Qualification 1, Beitske Visser beat Marta García by only two seconds for pole position. Both got a clean start in the first race ahead of the field with the Dutch lady defending P1 and building a comfortable gap to secure victory ahead of Marta.

In the reverse grid race following, the Sirio Academy driver focused on tracking the title contender, making her way from the back of the grid through the midfield and finally close to the front, as she eventually overtook Pepper to finish fifth. The winner was Gabriela Jilkova, but she did not score any points.

With Beitske Visser on the podium, Marta García had to win Race 3 if she wanted to keep the series title alive! The Spanish driver secured pole position to get the job done, taking control for the longest race of the event. In the starting phase, she was the first to exit from Turn 1, but Visser put in the ultimate effort to overtake Marta and succeeded.

Marta hit the barrier slightly when defending her second position from Caitlin Wood and used everything she had with her fighting mentality to focus on closing the gap to Visser. She was literally flying and posted the best lap. It was all or nothing! However, Visser crossed the line first, becoming overall winner in the 2020 series.

The W Series Esports League will resume for the final round in Silverstone next Thursday.

Marta García: “Congratulations to Beitske for getting the job done so brilliantly!  She has been a really tough contender, but we have both had great battles in the W Series Esports League. I wasn’t expecting to be on pole in Race 3 and after making a small mistake, I was able to recover and set the fastest lap as well. Now, let’s finish the series on a high in Silverstone!”
